About Law Education Implimetion 

Law as an Education in India was introduced in the year 1987 as a three-year degree program granted under the Advocates Act, 1961. BCI (Bar Council of India) is the main regulatory body of law education.

In the year 1985, the “Law Commission of India” has decided to establish a University for Legal Education in order to raise the academic standard of the legal profession in India. Thereafter the first law university in India was established in Bangalore named “National Law School of India University”, better known as “NLS”. This was the time when the first LLB degree was introduced in India.

UGC on September 2012 offered LLM a one-year course in India.

Courses & Career after 12th in Law

Law is one of the career-oriented courses after 12th. In India, the student can pursue the legal degree after the completion of the graduation in any discipline. There are the following degrees of legal education in India.

  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) – 3 years

LLB is the most common degree of law education. The LLB takes the 3 year as the duration of the course.

  • Integrated undergraduate degrees – B.A. LL.B., B.Sc. LL.B., BBA LLB, B.Com LL.B – 5 years

One who wishes to do the integrated course can take the admission in 5 year integrated programme after the completion of 10+2 exams.

  • Master of Laws (LL.M.) – one/two years

LLM is a master’s degree in legal education having one or two-year duration. It has been started in India in 2012.

The MBL is a master’s degree in legal education with a specialization in business law having one or two-year duration.

  • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

There is a good prospect for Ph.D. after legal education. Most of the highly reputed autonomous institution provides Ph.D. programs.

  • Integrated MBL-LLM/ MBA-LLM – 3years

One who wishes to do the integrated course with business specialization can go for the MBL-LLM or MBA-LLM. It is a 3 year degree programme after the completion of the LLB.

Admission in Law education

Students who want to take admission in law have to appear in CLAT 2022 (Common Law Admission Test). CLAT is conducted for admission to National Law Universities (NLUs) and various other institutions. Through CLAT, students are admitted to integrated L.L.B and L.L.M courses.

Students can go for law courses in 12th with any stream (Science stream/ Commerce stream/ Arts stream).

BCI provides a “Certificate of Practice” to the candidates after completing LLB. In order to practice in the law profession and obtain the certificate, it is mandatory for the candidates to qualify the All India Bar Examination (AIBE 2022).

Students who want to pursue law courses from foreign universities/institutions can apply for LSAT 2022. Admission to Jindal Law Global School is done through LSAT (Law School Admission Test) conducted by Law School Admission Council, USA.

Eligibility Criteria for Correspondence and Distance LL.B

Most of the universities do not have strict eligibility criteria for selection of students for correspondence and distance LLB. However, the basic requirements set by the universities are given below.

  • The student must have completed higher secondary (or 10+2) education from any school which is affiliated to a recognized board like ISC, CBSE, any state board etc.
  • It is necessary for a student to pass in all subjects in class 12th board examinations.
  • No specification is made regarding the stream or discipline of the student and applications are accepted from all academic backgrounds and streams.
  • Apart from these general eligibility criteria, some universities or colleges may have another set of rules and regulations to select students for their distance and correspondence law courses. Details of all those conditions can be found on the official website of that particular college or university.

 

How to Apply for Correspondence and Distance LL.B

  • Visit the official website of the university you want to take admission in
  • Find the link to the application form which will probably be provided in the ‘Notifications’ or ‘Admission’ section.
  • Go through the officially announced brochure or general instructions on the website for that particular course before proceeding with the application process
  • If the form is to be filled online, fill and submit the same and pay the application fee through net banking or debit/credit card
  • If the form submission is done in offline mode, make sure you know the correct address where it is to be posted and the correct mode in which payment needs to be made. Most the universities accept the application fee in the form of a demand draft if the deposit is done offline. In this case, you must ensure that you are drawing a demand draft in favor of the correct authority.
  • Fill in your personal and academic details with accuracy
  • Attach the copies of the documents asked for in the form or upload the scanned copies
  • The form must also contain your photograph and signature
  • Finally, check all the entries carefully before submitting the form
  • Keep a copy of the form and its receipt with you for future use
