The entire “Five Point Someone” 2023 Summary

Five Point Someone is narrated mainly by Hari Kumar. He and his friends of four years, Alok Gupta and Ryan Oberoi, have spent their years studying mechanical engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology at the Elite Indian University, New Delhi. The IIT entrance exam is incredibly competitive, and the 326, 453, and 91 “All India Ranks” of these three are among the cream of Indian high school students.

Of course, colleges are a different matter, and they could perform better there. They find themselves “in the high 200s in a class of 300 students” in their first semester, with a five-point-something grade (on a scale where ten is a perfect score) and once average. Identified as K students, there is little chance of improving their standing.

The three are quite different characters, with Alok desperate to get a high-paying job to help his family, including his illegitimate father and his sister, who are to be married (a costly proposition).

At the same time, Ryan arrives as a privileged homemaker but has rarely seen his parents since childhood, as they have been busy building their increasingly successful businesses. Hari describes much of the story, but there are chapters in the voice of some of the other characters embedded in his account—his two friends and the girl he joins—giving a little more insight into their characters and Hari’s own (as he remains silent about his family and background).

Success at IITs comes with rote learning. Ryan, in particular, pursues how college inhibits creativity and how something of note has yet to be produced at IITs, especially compared to American universities. In.

Ryan constantly egged himself on to meet his friends to enjoy the college experience, but with any half-baked real-life academic success (which requires crunching hours), it is difficult to crush. Hari meets a girl, but Neha is the daughter of one of the most demanding professors on campus, and she rarely sees him.

Ryan plans to make it through the IITs and still has some fun “C2D plans,” or “to collaborate,” where they divide work among themselves, with only one-third participating in each class; but share their notes.

Everything for those classes with others. It’s unclear how much time and effort it takes and how things like in-class pop quizzes are frequently dealt with, but point five is more about a person’s details than it is about that big idea, like all-for-one camaraderie promoting such ideas.

C2D already has a slew of cheats about it, but things go haywire when they finally get around to taking a class by the notoriously tricky Pro Cherian in his IIT student days. Neha’s father and a well-known ten-point-zero man, Desperate, the three hatches an even more outrageous plan (and then blow it up in a ridiculous way).

Chetan Bhagat’s novels have a problem with questionable morality. Hari notes:

We were the real culprits. But that was not the point.

This is hardly the case in Bhagat’s novels; in fact, it hardly matters. His character rarely questions his sanity, and here it is his stupidity (how he allows himself to be caught) that gets him a slap on the wrist that is so severe. Did not leave

Eventually, the trio chats and dedicates themselves to their studies; Hari also tells Neha about her college experience:

It is about knowledge. And make maximum use of this system, even if it has flaws.

It’s not very reassuring—even undercutting it, it’s less knowledge than a safe, high-paying job they are hustling after, and essentially, they learned some “life lessons” at IIT. Beyond that, there is no mention of what he has learned. Only the most liberated, Ryan, genuinely interested in acquiring scientific knowledge, tampers with his smoothing experiments.

(Hari and Alok assist him in spending several hours every day for a while, but Bhagat has no idea what he spends on science and academic knowledge—any form of attainment is wholly made up.) (Off-stage, as this is not about school for Bhagat.)

As in Bhagat’s other novels, this one is almost entirely about friendship, as again (well, it was the first, but it was a formula he would repeat) a trio of young men is thrown together. Is and, despite some sharp disagreements, strives to act all-for-one and one-for-all. Despite its often childish simplicity, complete with highly unlikely and dramatic incidents, the story is entertaining and exhilarating: a buddy movie or soap opera version of the campus novel (with a heavy emphasis on academics).

This is aided by the fact that even the most significant turns are quickly forgotten — four years of college, after all, are quickly reduced to under three hundred pages — five points to someone with a steady and fast enough pace. Provides drama and entertainment). speed to keep readers entertained.

Five Points is a bad book by someone. Still, Bhagat’s vocals—Hari’s voice is quite compelling—the happy-go-lucky tone, and the campus novel nostalgia (“I may be out of IIT, but in some ways, my soul is still there,” Hari noted carefully at the end) strike enough chords and give it an undeniable appeal.

The messages it sends are terrible; it is deeply objectionable in its lack of a moral code, and even generous acts of friendship are frequently arbitrary or deceptive; there is a lot in writing, but it is readable and, despite its flaws, has a reasonably interesting story.
